As a result of continuing growth, and a full order book, S3 are seeking to recruit an experienced Mechanical Draftsman to support the company across the breadth of its operations. This opportunity would suit a candidate looking for a position within a small, dynamic company, and offering the chance to be involved in projects from conception to implementation, drawing upon a range of mechanical disciplines.
The candidate will preferably be educated to HNC/HND/degree level in a relevant engineering subject, conversant with a modern CAD software package and with a good knowledge and experience in the design of mechanical sub-assemblies including the specification and tolerancing of mechanical components, bearings, fasteners, finishes, and mechanical forces. The Candidate should also have a sound knowledge and understanding of the associated manufacturing techniques.
The main job function is to provide assistance to the Drawing Office Manager in the design and procurement of waveguide networks, antenna system sub-assemblies, rack layouts, equipment front panels and ancillary components. The successful candidate will also be expected to play an active role in supporting the company's SATSIO small antenna tracking system, demonstrating a knowledge and understanding of the key engineering disciplines and techniques required to ensure new development and innovation within this key product area.
The job is based at the company’s headquarters in Witham and candidates should therefore live in, or be prepared to relocate to, the local area. All candidates should have an existing legal right to work in the UK.
The job is varied and offers opportunities for progression within the company. The following section lists the typical functions the successful candidate will be required to carry out, either initially, or as a result of progression within the role;
- Engineering assistance to Sales (floor plan layouts, mechanical design costing, etc)
- Assistance to Project Management (specification, scheduling and procurement of mechanical assemblies).
- Mechanical Design and Drafting
- Factory Test and Acceptance of mechanical sub-assemblies.
- Site installation and commissioning of antenna assemblies.
Progression to Senior Level is desired, and may be accelerated for more senior/experienced candidates.
